Confused Between Sn0wbreeze and Redsn0w

Musclenerd [Dev Team] released Redsn0w 0.9 [Beta] for jailbreaking iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS on firmware 3.1.2 And i now iH8sn0w team announced the availability of final build of Sn0wbreeze. We are getting lots of mails/tweets from our loyal readers regarding, should i go for Sn0wbreeze or Redsn0w? and What is difference between Redsn0w and Sn0wbreeze? So i decided to post a little article to clear their confusions. If you have any question we didn’t covered here, just post your doubt in comments section below.
Sn0wbreeze : Sn0wbreeze/Pwnage Tool takes the IPSW file and patches it, creating a custom version. This enables a lot more capabilities such as pre-installed packages, boot neuters (unlock for iPhone 1st Generation), custom packages and boot logos. Unlike Redsn0w, it does this through a custom restore bundle, or .ipsw. You can then restore to this bundle in iTunes, and on completion have a device tailored to your needs. This method is usually more secure than the quick exploits (redsn0w, blackra1n etc.). You can check our Sn0wbreeze guide here
Redsn0w : Redsn0w  is totally different from Sn0wbreeze, redsn0w doesn’t requires you to custom restore. Simply update your phone to 3.1.2 (if you haven’t updated to 3.1.2) and do the jailbreak process. For some people, this is by far the best method, as restoring requires you to sync all your data back. You can check our Redsn0w guide here
In my case i always prefer pwnage tool. Since many of you don’t have a Macintosh/Hackintosh, Sn0wbreeze is a true life savior for you. You can check our Sn0wbreeze guide here
If you are still confused to choose your poison, check the following advantages of Sn0wbreeze.
  • Disable baseband updates : If you are using unofficial carrier for e.g. T-Mobile, you should take care of your baseband. Sn0wbreeze (Windows) and Pwnage (Mac) offer you a choice to preserve your baseband while updating to latest firmware. For example if Apple release a new baseband update with firmware 3.2/4.0 (whatever) you can preserve your unlock bypassing the baseband update by creating a custom firmware.
  • Install third party applications : Are you tired off restarting springboard, reboot device after installing a tweak from Cydia and then long refresh time at every launch of Cydia? Do you have a long list of Cydia applications to install? if your answer is YES, then Sn0wbreeze is your poison.
If you have any question we love to hear back from you on twitter via @iTune2iPhone and keep your self updated daily.

Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 2g 3G 3GS OS 3.1.2 with Redsn0w 0.9

Redsn0w is an easy to use, multi-platform, multi-device jailbreaking and unlocking tool for the iPhone 2G 3G 3GS and also the iPod touch (first and second generation). Just like Blackra1n, Redsn0w jailbreak  the 3.1.2 firmware already installed on your device, so before you proceed, you must have installed the original 3.1.2. Note that late-model iPhone 3GS and iPod touch 2G whose serial number begins with “MC” are currently restricted to “tethered” rebooting. That means you need to connect your device to a computer to complete the boot after a reset. Also, these devices cannot have custom logos.

Download Redsn0w 0.9 Beta 3
Step 1. If you have not already, download the original firmware 3.1.2 on the desktop of your computer. In case of unlocking an iPhone EDGE, to be sure you also download the two files Bootloader: bl39.bin andbl46.bin
Step 2. Connect the iPhone / iPod to PC or Mac
Step 3. Launch the application and click on Browse. Select the original firmware 3.1.2 from the desktop of your computer and then click on Next
Step 4. It will start an automatic process (and very fast) which will be downloaded and patched the kernel.
Following a new screen will appear. Cydia is already selected.

  • Install Cydia: Main reason why we jailbreak iPhone.
  • Verbose Boot: Will allow you to replace the boot with the apple (boot chart) with the verbose mode, or the ability to see everything that is loaded at startup;
  • Custom Boot Logo: Bore with classic apple startup, change with your face or whatever else. Size should be 320X480.
  • Recovery Custom Logo: A logo that will replace the classic Recovery;
  • Already Pwned: Select if you want to install the verbose boot or change the boot and recovery logos on an iPhone on which has already been to jailbreak;
Step 5. Now you will be asked to put the iPhone in Recovery Mode (iPhone 3GS) or DFU (the other iPhone / iPod).
How to put your iPhone in recovery mode :
  1. Turn the device completely off and disconnect it from cable/dock.
  2. Hold down the home button.
  3. While holding down the home button connect to a computer with a cable (easiest) or dock.
  4. Keep holding down the home button until you see a connect-to-iTunes screen You are now in recovery mode.
To escape Recovery Mode and power the phone off simply hold down power and home buttons for ten seconds.
How to put your iPhone in DFU mode :
  1. Connect your iPhone to your computer.
  2. Turn iPhone off.
  3. Hold power and home together for 10 seconds (exactly).
  4. Release power but keep holding home until the computers beeps (observed on a PC) as a USB device is recognized.
  5. A few seconds later iTunes should detect your iPhone.
  6. If the Restore Logo is present on the screen, you are in Recovery Mode, not DFU.
Step 6. Once you are in recovery mode/dfu mode redsn0w will start another automated process to complete the Jailbreak.

GV Mobile + 2.0 for Jailbreak iPhone Now Available on Cydia

As we all know, Google Voice client app is currently not available for non-jailbroken iPhone users. Both GV Mobile and Voice Central clients for Google Voice were available earlier for a short period, but then they were soon removed by Apple from the App Store due to "duplicating features that the iPhone comes with (Dialer, SMS, etc)". Later, the developer Sean Kovacs brought GV Mobile to Cydia. Consequently, it is now available for jailbroken iPhone users (with GV accounts) for free.

GV Mobile + 2.0

Unfortunately, the latest version GV Mobile + 2.0 is to be bought for a price. This is because the app has been completely re-written from the ground-up and includes lots of advanced new features. For those of you who are unaware, GV Mobile is an application that allows access to all the features of Google Voice through iPhone.

The new version includes tons of features: Favorites; New tab system for Contacts, Favorites and Keypad; Landscape SMS; Call & Add Contact from SMS main view; International support for SMS; Call, Text, & Add Contact from History; Voicemail transcriptions, new voicemail screen layout; Call, Text, & Add Contact from Voicemail; Local archiving of voicemail; Offline dialing (via dialing GV #); Default Area code; More data sync options (Interval, Startup, Startup on demand, manual); Multiple Accounts; User selectable tab to open Google Settings and so on.

You will need to have a jailbroken iPhone to in order to install GV Mobile 2.0. Follow the instructions posted here to first jailbreak your iPhone (if you haven’t already) and then install it via Cydia from ModMyI repository. [via TiPB]

Guide to Jailbreak iPhone 2G 3G 3GS 3.1.2 on Windows with Sn0wbreeze

Sn0wbreeze like blackra1n, redsn0w and PwnageTool is yet another jailbreaking tool for iPhone and iPod touch which can be used to create custom .ipsw files. But unlike thePwnageTool, Sn0wbreeze is fully compatible to work with Windows 7/Vista and XP machines. If for some reason the earlier mentioned tools didn’t work for you, you can give Sn0wbreeze a try and see if it helps in jailbreaking your iPhone with a custom .ipsw file.

Note: Sn0wbreeze is a beta release and it may have some issues. blackra1n and PwnageTool are still the recommended tools for jailbreaking iPhone and iPod touch. Complete step by step guide for jailbreaking iPhone/iPod touch with blackra1n can befound here, and with PwnageTool here.
The current version of Sn0wbreeze supports iPhone 2G/3G/3GS(non MC) and iPod touch 1G and 2G (non MC). Follow the step by step guide posted below to jailbreak your iPhone and iPod touch with Sn0wbreeze.
Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
Step 2: Now start iTunes and sync your iPhone with your PC so that it backs-up all your important data including settings, apps, music, contacts and photos.
Step 3: Download Sn0wbreeze and the original iPhone OS 3.1.2 for your version of iPhone (download links given below). Move all these files to your desktop.
Step 4: Start Sn0wbreeze and select “Simple Mode”. Dont select “Expert Mode” as it is still a work in progress and may not work properly.

Step 5: Sn0wbreeze will now ask you to browse for your .ipsw file. Select the correct 3.1.2 firmware .ipsw file for iDevice by clicking the “Browse” button. Sn0wbreeze will verify the selected file and then will present you with following screen.

Step 6: Click on "Yes" when Sn0wbreeze asks you “Do you want to activate your iPhone?” for hacktivation. Click on “No” only if you are on an officially supported carrier like AT&T.

Step 7: Sn0wbreeze will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which will be jailbroken.

Step 8: Now you will have to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 3.1.2 that you just cooked using Sn0wbreeze for your iPhone. Click on your phone from the sidebar in iTunes and then press and hold left “Shift” button on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.

This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your downloaded custom firmware 3.1.2. Select that custom .ipsw file and click on “Open”.
Step 9: Now sit back and enjoy as iTunes does the rest for you. This will involve a series of automated steps. Be patient at this stage and don’t do anything silly. Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully jailbroken iPhone running on firmware 3.1.2.
How to: Unlock iPhone on 3.1.2:
You can now follow the tutorial/guide posted here to unlock your iPhone on firmware 3.1.2 using ultrasn0w, or here to unlock iPhone (05.11.07 baseband) with blacksn0w .
Step 10: Once you are done with the unlocking and jailbreak process. You can now restore all your settings, apps, music, contacts and photos to the newly installed firmware version 3.1.2 by restoring the backup that you made in Step 2 from iTunes.

iPhone OS 4.0 Beta Ready to Served?

Last time we published about traces of iPhone OS 4.0 spotted insome apps analytics logs and server logs of BGR. No doubt OS 4 is going to release sometime in June/July along the next revision of iPhone 4G, HD or something like that. According to French site M4Ever [translated link] Apple is all set to seed the first beta version of iPhone OS 4.0 with it’s SDK to respective developers. All we can say that, Cupertino Giants should design OS 4 to be a revolutionary new OS with major new features, as the hype surrounding the iPhone is quickly dying off due to what Android brings to the table. Earlier Motorola Droid and now Google Nexus One creating lots of hype and no doubt in some comparisons these Android phones are miles ahead from iPhone

Several of our sources give us two pieces of information about the famous tablet from Apple in late January, in addition to its tablet, Cupertino should have a beta of iPhone OS 4, with its SDK. Our informants also speak of a “simulator” specially adapted to the tablet. A priori, the great novelty of this SDK therefore concern interfaces, making it easier for developers to adapt to different screen resolutions. The new iPhone could also benefit from a higher pixel density. This information is taken with the tongs to use.
Apple Event is scheduled on 27th of January, in the meantime, let us know what you think Apple will be announcing, and what you want in OS 4.
